Dr. Roizenº on Mindful Tips to Keep Your Gut Happy During the Holidays
Let’s face it—the holidays are tough on your digestive system. And many think of the holidays as not just two days but a marathon—The Holiday Marathon—the five weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. It really starts earlier, at Halloween, when all that candy suddenly shows up in your home and workplace. The secret to staying healthy through the holidays is both what you eat as how much you eat. But to keep your intestines healthy and making you feel good during and after the holidays, I use the rule of four—pick four days a year when you can eat anything (in reasonable portions). A few times a year, occasions arise that are truly special: Your birthday, Thanksgiving, your anniversary. These events are almost always celebrated with food. If it’s a true celebration, it’s about impossible to avoid the delicacies around. And sharing your happiness over a delicious meal or special food is a fabulous and cherished part of life.
